Betrayal Trauma Therapy, Coaching & Support

Healing From Betrayal Trauma. Support for partners experiencing betrayal trauma after infidelity, sex addiction, pornography use or deception. Rebuild safety, trust, clarity and confidence.

Discovering that your partner has been hiding pornography use, sexual addiction, emotional or physical affairs, infidelity, or other secretive sexual or relationship behaviors can shatter your sense of safety, trust, and reality in an instant. Whether you discovered a text message, email, photo, bank statement, online activity, or received a confession, the emotional impact can be overwhelming.

For many partners, this discovery can lead to betrayal trauma. A profound emotional and physiological response that can occur when trust is broken by the person you depend on and feel safest with. You may experience symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress, including anxiety, panic, intrusive thoughts, hypervigilance, difficulty sleeping, trouble concentrating, emotional numbness, anger, fear, or an overwhelming need to search for answers. You may find yourself checking phones, questioning past events, replaying conversations, or constantly waiting for more bad news. You may even begin questioning your own intuition and wondering what was real.

You Are Not to Blame for Your Partner’s Betrayal

For years, partners affected by sex addiction, pornography addiction, affairs, and infidelity were often labelled as codependent or blamed for trying to save or understand their relationship.

A trauma-informed approach recognizes that many of these behaviours are responses to the loss of safety and trust that follows betrayal.

I work from a Prodependence® model, which means you will not be blamed or shamed for loving your partner, wanting to save your relationship, or for the ways you have tried to protect yourself and make sense of what has happened.

Your partner’s choices and behaviors are not your fault. You did not cause the pornography use, sexual addiction, affair, deception, or other secretive behavior, and you cannot recover for your partner.

Healing from betrayal trauma and infidelity is possible. As recovery progresses, your nervous system can begin to settle. Intrusive thoughts may become less frequent, emotional triggers can become more manageable, and you can begin to move out of constant survival mode.

Over time, you can begin trusting yourself and your intuition again. You can gain clarity, establish healthy boundaries, make decisions from a place of greater confidence rather than fear, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have felt lost through the betrayal.

You do not have to decide immediately whether to stay or leave.

Whether you are working toward rebuilding your relationship, considering separation, dealing with repeated betrayal, or simply unsure about what comes next, betrayal trauma therapy, coaching and support can help you:

  • Process the shock, grief, anger, fear, and confusion following betrayal
  • Reduce trauma symptoms, anxiety, and emotional triggers
  • Re-establish a sense of emotional safety
  • Develop healthy boundaries
  • Understand the impact of sexual addiction, pornography addiction, affairs, and deception
  • Step out of the exhausting role of truth-seeker or “relationship police”
  • Rebuild trust in yourself and your intuition
  • Make informed decisions about your relationship and your future
  • Move forward with greater clarity, confidence, strength, and peace
  • Why is Betrayal Trauma not the same as PTSD?

PTSD is primarily a response to overwhelming fear or danger, leaving the nervous system on high alert long after the threat has passed. Betrayal trauma occurs when someone you trusted for love, safety and security becomes a source of harm. The injury is about loss of trust, attachment, and emotional safety.

While the two can overlap, betrayal, trauma is unique because the injury is relational. The deepest wound isn’t simply what happened, it’s who it happened with. When someone you depend on for love, safety, and security becomes the source of deception or harm, your nervous system isn’t just responding to danger. Your sense of trust, identity, and reality can also be profoundly shaken.

Healing from betrayal trauma isn’t only about reducing anxiety or fear. It’s about rebuilding trust in yourself, processing grief and restoring the sense of safety that was lost within the relationship.
